Jeff’s first induction to the Martial Arts was with his
cousin David Zachary. When David had return from his tour of duty with the
US Army, he had shown Jeff the workings of the Nuchuka’s and Tae Kwon Do.
David’s influence was a welcome to a new way of life for Jeff for he had
continued his practice while serving with the US Army. Jeff’s first tour of
duty was in Korea on the DMZ and six weeks of mandatory Tae Kwon Do training
was in play instead of the regular routine of Physical Training or known as
“PT”.
Jeff had discovered other arts that had caught his
interest and finally ended up in Moo Duk Kwon Tang Soo Do for which he
continued the practice until the year of 2000 and had meet up with Master
Chuck Cory.
Now Master Cory, a.k.a. “Chuck” was working in the same
facilities as Jeff since 1998 and not once had Chuck said anything about his
Martial Arts Back ground; until one day when Bobby had a long conversation
with Chuck. Bobby had return to the office to state that Chuck was a Kung
Fu Master to Stan and Jeff. Once they were believers Stan and Jeff had went
up to the computer lab to inquire on the new found information. Chuck just
chuckle, said yes and the rest is history.
Jeff has been training under Chuck since July 25th,
2000; the best part of the training was the added extra Chuck would give
while at work and sharing his lunch along with his infamous hot pickles.
Chuck love and thirst for the art was very vivid especially when speaking of
his teacher Jimmy H. Woo, the demos, and his work out partners in
California.
Chuck along with Howard Scrivens and Brian Corsy had
open San Soo Michigan to the public in November of 2000, prior to the
official opening of the school San Soo Michigan was a private club for the
core students. The school has a great following even to this day. Now the
original owners of the school had gone their separate ways. Chuck to
Tennessee with the Nashville schools, Brian back to Atlanta and Howard who
had started his own school, the “Scrivens Academy of Martial Arts”. At
which time the San Soo Michigan school was turn over to the top students
Jeff Cornelius and Stan Gergely. The school still trains in the old ways
and to quote Chuck, if you did not earn it you will not get it! Jeff
instills into his student the need to understand the art and what it can
do. This is not an art to play with for the techniques and power that is
put into it is very devastating and is meant to hurt or permanently injure.
