  Chuck Cory began his study of Kung Fu San Soo in early 1970. Upon receiving his black belt from Sharon and Larry Wikel, Chuck began his study of San Soo directly under Jimmy H. Woo. In 1974 Chuck had opened his first school in North Hollywood, California; Thousands of men, women, and children have studied under Chuck Cory as they have gone through the ranks of Kung Fu San Soo. Chuck Cory has taught San Soo to the physically challenged, has designed and ran rape prevention classes, as well as specialized programs for military and law enforcement personnel.

In January of 1983, Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo awarded Chuck Cory the rank of Master in the art of Kung Fu San Soo. Master Cory continued teaching San Soo until February of 1992, as he retired from teaching the art of Kung Fu San Soo. Master Cory had turned the school over to one of his top students, so the school may continue and flourish. He eventually settled down in Dearborn Heights, Michigan with his family. Master Cory is a well known and respected member of the Kung Fu San Soo community. His reputation was based entirely on his skill and knowledge of San Soo. This has been strengthened by his student’s skills and understanding of the art.

One such student, Bart Ryan, began teaching San Soo in Atlanta, GA, where he continued teaching until 1999, at which point he relocated to California to pursue his love of music. Two of Bart’s students, Howard G. Scrivens and Brian R. Corsi, decided to petition Master Cory to come out of retirement so they may continue their training in San Soo under Master Cory’s tutelage. Master Cory agreed, Brian and Howard had moved from Atlanta to Michigan. Master Cory decision to come out of retirement to once again teach San Soo to the public and to create a core student body.

His goals have always been, to teach an effective and practical fighting system and to continue the traditions of Kung Fu San Soo. Master Cory, along with his instructors, Brian, Howard and Kevin opened San Soo Michigan. On July 25th, 2000 with 14 core students who had waited their first day at the door of the Wayne Recreation Center in Wayne waiting for their induction to Kung Fu San Soo or the five families Tsoi Li Ho Fut Hung. The core students started growing along with the school. In November of 2000 a new home was created for San Soo Michigan located in Westland, Michigan.


In February 2006 with Master Cory's departure from Michigan to Nashville Tennessee to continue his teaching of San Soo. Jeffrey P. Cornelius now
leads the school, which continues to flourish with associate instructors Dave Niemann and Steve Cornelius. Jeff along with his partner Stan Gergely has been teachers in training of the art since the start of their training in San Soo. To quote Master Cory; “Not only do I train students to fight I also train students to be teachers to continue the growth of Kung Fu San Soo into the future”! The extra time that was put in and the efforts of the assistant instructors made it possible for Stan and Jeff to receive their teacher’s certificates in October of 2003

Since the awarding of the teacher’s certification in October of 2003 which has been the goals’ of Stan and Jeff in order to continue the art into the future. Jeff had open San Soo Michigan, Romulus in January of 2004 and continues with the art with assistant instructors David Niemann, Steve Cornelius and Jeff JR.
