To have an understanding of Kung Fu San Soo it must first be stated it is
not a sport. It is a combat art tested throughout history for the express
purpose of defending one's life by whatever means necessary. The art is
loosely defined as the complete use of a man's hands in combat. The art's
effectiveness and lack of rule structure has inspired Inside Kung Fu
Magazine to refer to it as Legendary and Devastating...A pure Chinese
fighting art that has few equals in December of 1999. In its purest form it
has been banned from sport competitions due to its lack of rule structure
and aggressive techniques. Though there are trends to try to adapt it to
current MMA rules and regulations by some, our Grandmaster, Jimmy H. Woo did
not feel the art could be used to it's fullest potential in these
environments. It is truly an art for combat and self defense.
Kung Fu San Soo is a martial art that incorporates principles of leverage,
movement, physics, proper breathing and psychology to create a powerful and
effective fighter. There are no animal imitations and feats of strength such
as board breaking. Kung Fu San Soo practitioners are taught to respect life
and the damage an experienced practitioner can inflict. Our Grandmaster,
Jimmy H. Woo, is quoted in several sources as saying the art of Kung Fu San
Soo lies not in victory or defeat but in the building of human character. We
feel that fighting is a terrible thing that should be avoided whenever
possible . It is easier to walk away than injure or kill someone. However,
if the time ever arises where you are unable to walk away or escape, a San
Soo fighter is taught to attack and fight offensively. As our Grandmaster
has stated; If a man attacks you how do you know that man isn't trying to
kill you? You can not win a fight being defensive. Offense to win. This
psychology is at the core of Kung Fu San Soo. |
