- To have a better understanding of San Soo, the art
is loosely defined as a complete fighting art of "Empty Hand Combat!" It has
been proven as a fighting combat art tested throughout history for the soul purpose of
defending one's life, by offending an attacking adversary. The effectiveness of the art
and lack of rule structure has inspired some to say it is a devastating Chinese
fighting art that is second to none. In its purest form, it has been banned from sport
competitions due to its aggressive style of fighting techniques. Trying to adapt
Kung Fu San Soo to the current Mix Martial Arts rules and regulations will take away from
the arsenal of techniques and pureness of the art as taught through the centuries. Jimmy
H. Woo, did not feel that San Soo could be used to it's fullest potential in these
environments or stand for the rules of sports art.
It is truly an art for
combat and street fighting with the use of very offensive techniques. Kung Fu San
Soo incorporates principles and concepts of leverages, throws, movement of fulcrums,
physics, combinations, complementary techniques, proper breathing and psychology to create
a powerful and most effective fighter. The individual student and practitioners are
taught to respect life, the damage an experienced practitioner can inflict on ones life
would be devastating. Jimmy H. Woo, is quoted, according to several sources as saying the
art of "Kung Fu San Soo lies not in victory or defeat, but in the building of human
character." If the time or need was to ever arise where you are unable to walk
away, a San Soo fighter will attack and attack offensively.
"If a man attacks you, how do you know that man
isn't trying to kill you?" Be offense to win; this psychology is at the core of
Kung Fu San Soo.
